ith over 200 people benefiting from Accompanied Walks so far, our community outreach project is now firmly embedded as part of the Museum’s wellbeing offer.
The project provides an opportunity for members of the community who have little or no opportunity, or need some encouragement and support, to venture outdoors or interact with other people.
By spending an hour or so in the beautiful surroundings of the Museum, in the company of a friendly and knowledgeable volunteer, learning about our unique collection of heritage buildings and rare breed farm animals, Accompanied Walkers benefit from:
• A dose of ‘Vitamin green’ from being outdoors in a rural setting.
• The security of being in a supervised setting (as opposed to a public park) with toilets.
• A social interaction.
• The knock-on wellbeing benefits associated with the above, such as an increase in confidence, a greater ability to manage existing health conditions, and a diversion from negative thoughts.
• And most likely, pure enjoyment!
BOOST is aimed at older people who are isolated and/or lonely and would like to develop peer-to-peer friendships with those in similar situations, either on a one-to-one basis, or in small groups. These groups may be pre-existing community resources or they may be developed as part of the BOOST process. The service provides a focused intervention lasting up to 6 months with regular reviews to monitor clients’ progress towards their own goals.
A Charity dedicated to improving wellbeing in our communities in Beaconsfield. We believe that connections matter; we exist to transform the way residents can connect with services in our town to enable them to thrive and have a better quality of life and therefore help tackle social isolation and loneliness.
We meet daily Monday to Thursday (9am to 3pm) in our purpose built day centre to meet the needs of the elderly, bereaved and lonely in the villages of Flackwell Heath and Loudwater and the surrounding areas. Anyone over 60 is very welcome. We have our own wheel chair adapted minibus to collect and return clients and fresh meals are cooked daily on the premises. Exercises, entertainment, trips out, quizzes, games and craftwork are just some of the activities enjoyed as well as chatting and socialising. For more information please contact the manager.
Mental Health Mates aim to provide an informal opportunity for both sufferers and carers to meet with peers and walk and talk without fear of judgment whilst getting some valuable time in the outdoors.
The idea for Mental Health Mates came from journalist and mental health campaigner Bryony Gordon, who set up her first local group in London in 2016. Now the #findyourwe campaign has enabled volunteer led groups to spring up all over the country connecting people dealing with mental ill-health and their carers, loved ones and families who are welcome to attend.
All are welcome to Knit and Natter sessions. Just bring your Knitting along and spend an afternoon in good company, or drop in for a short while. If you don’t fancy knitting, just nattering is fine too.
