Mental Health Practitioner

Mental Health Practitioners are enabled professionals with mental health expertise, based in GP surgeries or neighbourhood settings, and they aim to provide support for patients with severe mental illnesses to live well in their local communities. They provide GPs and other primary care staff with timely support and advice, helping to relieve pressure on workloads and build stronger relationships between the GP practices and mental health services.

Mental Health Practitioners offer their services for the following groups of patients:

  • Working age and older adults with depression or anxiety, who have already tried forms of self-help but need further support and advise.
  • Serious mental illness sufferers who are not under CMHT care but require further input.
  • Patients with personality disorder (Problem-based intervention only)
  • Patients with perinatal mental health issues.
