Heatwave: coping in the hot weather

When hot weather hits, it can increase the risk of getting seriously ill. While many of us would welcome the sunshine, a heatwave can compromise our health in a number of ways. It is important to be extra vigilant with your wellbeing, as well as others around you.

A heatwave can affect anyone, but some people are more vulnerable, including:

  • older adults, particularly those aged 65 and over
  • babies and young children, aged 5 years and under
  • people who have serious long-term conditions
  • people who live alone and may be unable to care for themselves
